David Gilmour, the lead guitarist and vocalist for iconic rock band Pink Floyd, is selling 120 of his guitars to raise funds for various charities. The collection includes what is possibly one of the most important guitars in rock history called the Black Strat.

The Black Strat has been a part of David Gilmour’s life for over fifty years and has been continually modified to keep up to speed with his different sounds and playing styles. It’s amazing that charities are going to benefit from something so personal and unique.

The collection is being sold by Christie’s in New York on the 20th June 2019 and tonight I was photographing the viewing reception at their prestigious London sale rooms. Click here to view the full collection.

There was amazing production at the event and Pink Floyd tunes were being piped around the sale rooms. I’ve got to be honest and say that my awareness of Pink Floyd music was pretty low before the event but now I can’t stop listening to them. Do you know when you listen to something so much that you can’t get it out of your head? Well that’s me.

I also got to meet Jules Holland. I’m a pretty poor pianist and I thought that getting so close to a piano genius that his skills might rub off on me. They didn’t.
